Clutter to Compost

Clutter to Compost was funded through a grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. Jonestown does not have regular removal of tree limbs, so fallen tree limbs and leaves are either burned, degrading the air quality, or are left on the ground, collecting vermin and contributing to a run-down appearance in Jonestown. This project was started to improve the environment in Jonestown by initiating a recycling system of converting fallen tree limbs and leaves into compost for gardens. The project emphasizes service learning, environmental cleanup, community beautification, and entrepreneurship. Youth in the Girls to Women and Girls Now Women programs in Jonestown are involved in most aspects of the project.
